Since we were not able to secure enough participation to kick-start what would be the inaugural Inter-University Championships, we were thinking to set up a committee to kick-start this event later this year.

You do not have to be a Sudoku enthusiast or a Sudoku champion to be part of the committee. But, if you are part of the committee, then you will not be able to take part in the championships.

The bright part is that you will have an opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team and organize the first ever national Inter-University Sudoku Championships.

If you are interested, just let us know through our feedback form and we will get back to you. We would prefer those who are around the Klang Valley region to join us. Nevertheless, those from other states are encouraged to submit their interests. There is always a way you can help us!

We would like to form the committee by end of May 2011 – so we have approximately 2 months before the closing date and we are looking for at least 15-20 committee members. Please take note that this invitation is only open to students either in colleges or universities, public or private nationwide.

We have been unable to secure sponsorships due to the low participation/registration. We are currently on a registration mode and it will continue to run until the 20th of February 2011.

If we are unable to secure the target participation, we will keep the registrations open until we achieve the target before launching/announcing the official dates for the competition.

As we do not have the financial strength or the support from tentative sponsors to launch this project, we need YOUR help to promote this event and help us secure the registrations.

Al Escargot - 2006 World's Hardest Sudoku Puzzle

The man behind this 2006 discovery is none other than Arto Inkala, a Finnish mathematician. Four years later, he is back – and this time around he has outdone himself by developing an even harder Sudoku puzzle than the previous one he developed.

His feat has propelled him into the Guinness Book of World Records alongside his creation. Dr Chintan Pandya had a keen interest in Sudoku and used to play the 9 x 9 Sudoku puzzles that he obtained from the newspapers daily.

It was just a matter of time before the frustration of solving much more difficult puzzles got to him when he stopped playing. It was not until he found out that his mother-in-law was interested in Sudoku as well did his interest kick back in.

So, what made him create the World’s Largest Sudoku Puzzle? According to Dr Chintan Pandya, his mother-in-law urged him to create something new in the Sudoku field and that sparked the idea of developing such a large Sudoku puzzle and he set to work on it.

At first deemed, impossible – now not anymore. Guess what? Dr Chintan Pandya plans to continue creating larger Sudoku puzzles, his next aims are: 200 x 200 and 1000 x 1000.

Think you could handle all the Sudoku puzzles thrown at you? Think again.. :-)

The event received a warm reception from Sudoku enthusiasts with some coming from as far as Malacca to participate in the event.

There were also Sudoku players as young as 13 years old and golden citizens of the age of 65 participating in the event.

The event took place in Shaw Parade and had more than 160 participants playing Sudoku some just for the fun of it, others with the intent to win some of the exciting prizes that was in display on the stage that day.

Kicking off at 9AM, the event had around nine batches of preliminary rounds from which fifty best participants by time would be selected to play in the round of 50.

From then onwards, the ten best players by time will be selected to compete in the finals and based on that, the top three placings will be given.

In the round of 50, players would stand to win hampers courtesy to a lucky draw. In addition to that, all 50 players were also given Mc Donald’s meal cards, bookstore gift pack and tour agency vouchers.

After the completion of the normal Sudoku a variant known as 1Sudoku variant would be played by the players. Those who feel that they are upto it were given the chance to participate in the variant round with the chance to win prizes worth upto RM5,000.

His creativity and innovative ideas led to development of a whole new chapter in Malaysian Sudoku arena leading to numerous competitions being organized and free online sudoku puzzles being introduced.

In the year 2001, he successfully launched what has today come to be known as Malaysia’s Premier Free Online Sudoku Portal catering to Malaysians and global players alike. The year 2009 was a landmark success for all of us with the introduction of free online sudoku puzzles and this was further revolutionized under his mentoring.

On the 8th of May 2010, Mr N Balasingam succumbed to a fatal heart attack. He will always be cherished as a father, a husband, a businessman, a friend, a mentor, an inspirational leader and a person of innovation.

During our tenure of working under Mr N Balasingam, with his guidance we managed to steer Sudoku.com.my from a local sudoku website into a global sudoku website with players from all over the globe stopping by to have their share of fun.

Mr N Balasingam was also actively involved in the ICT Scene with the recent launch of the ICT Micro Seminar series training ICT exposed persons on how to improve their businesses by implementing ICT.

Besides Sudoku, Mr N Balasingam was also involved in further pipeline projects such as Scrabble and Treasure Hunt which were all under development stages under his guidance.

His inspiration which led many Malaysian players to the global sudoku scene will not go unforgotten. Sudoku.com.my Team will continue to improve, update and move to the next level in his memory.

Languages available for translation currently are: Arabic, Chinese, Czech, French, Filipino, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Malay, Persian, Spanish and Thai.

The Daily, Weekly and Random puzzles are ongoing and we get good response from the regulars who are competing on the various Leader Boards.  Hope to see more of the Puzzle Members participating.
