Welcome to the UTAR National Sudoku Competition 2008, the first online Sudoku competition in Malaysia, to be held on Saturday, 14th June 2008 from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Sudoku.com.my is the competition website and we are pleased to have been invited to facilitate this competition organised by the UTAR Mathematics Society.

In addition to being an online competition, the Organisers have planned to make this a fun event by creating a loser?s pool and also sessions on Sudoku variations. While the winners move on to subsequent rounds, the losers in each round will be moved to an adjacent venue for puzzle solving of a different kind. It will be fun and there will be prizes to be won. You can expect a carnival atmosphere, with undergraduates from various Universities mingling and enjoying the fellowship with new-found friends.
Please peruse the details below before registering. The Organisers have given novices at Sudoku solving, an opportunity to team up with the more skilled to participate in pairs, and at the same time allowed the ?lone rangers? to participate individually.

DATE: Saturday, 14th June 2008
TIME: 8.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m.
VENUE: Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) UTAR, PD Block, No. 9, Jalan Bersatu, 13/4, 46200, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
PRIZES:
First – RM 1,500 + Certificate
Second – RM 1,000 + Certificate
Third – RM 500 + Certificate
7 x Consolation Prizes – RM 50 + Certificate.
Loser’s Pool: Prizes in kind, to be confirmed based on response from Sponsors.

ENTRY FEES:
RM 18.00 per pair (UTAR Students)
RM 20.00 per pair (Non-UTAR Students)
RM 18.00 or 20.00 per Student who wishes to participate as an individual.

Non-UTAR students can pay their entry fees at the Registration Counter from 8.00 to 9.00 a.m. on 14th June, before the competition. All participants will be required to have the NRIC and Student ID card to confirm their registration.

Lunch will be provided.

COMPETITION FORMAT

Puzzles used in the Competition: Classic Sudoku Puzzles (Easy, Medium & Difficult)

Competition Format: Online Competition at the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology Laboratories.
Participation: One pair, or Individual, per computer as per registration.
First Round: Easy puzzles. 200 (pairs and individuals) x 2 batches. Top 50 x 2 will move to Round 2.
Second Round: Medium puzzles. 100 (pairs and individuals). Top 20 will move to Final Round
Final Round: Difficult puzzles. 20 (pairs and individuals)
Losers Pool: Details to be announced at the Competition. You will have fun and win attractive prizes in kind.

REGISTRATION

Participants are required to complete the online registration form. Only one member of the pair has to register. Please provide particulars of the partner in the fields provided.

Those registering as individuals can leave the partner?s fields blank.

Closing Date for Registration: 7th June 2008.
