We had a successful 2nd Malaysian Sudoku Competition at the YMCA of KL on Sunday, 20th November, 2005. There were 86 participants inclusive of 35 children. The increase in the number of children participating was very encouraging and the younger ones were quite excited, perhaps for the first time in a competition of this sort.
There were three categories: Adults, Under 18 and Under 12. Each group was required to solve two puzzle each in 45 minutes. The winners of the Under 12 and 18 were determined from the above. The top 15 in the adults category were required to play in a final round to solve one puzzle within 30minutes. The top 10 from the under 18 and the top 6 from the under 12 were invited to compete with the adults in the final round.
Guess what? The under 18 champion, Thong May Han, age 17, emerged as the overall winner in the adults category, solving the puzzle in 3.23 minutes. She won the prize money of RM 150 in the children?s category and RM 500 in the adults category and walked away with the Challenge Trophy. (She was the first runner-up in the previous competition). The previous champion Adrian Wong was edged to fourth place by two other ladies, Lim Fong in second place who took 4.02 mins. and Oon Lay Heong in third place finished in 4.09 mins.
Four of the children qualified in the top ten in the final adult?s category. Shaun Anthony Stephen, age 17, was the first runner-up in the under 18 and Tee Guang Hui, age 14 was second runner-up. Adapi Jegan Saikiran, age 12, was the champion in the under 12 category, Lim Zhi Pei, age 11, was second and Sarah Chan, age 10, was placed third.
Malaysia Boleh! is quite evident in this game of Sudoku, judging from the times taken to solve the puzzle. 3 to 4 minutes for what was classified as a ?hard? puzzle by the puzzle generator is considered fast. We have only just begun. Some of the participants have only been at it from one to three months. The current players are only a small fraction of the sudoku enthusiasts we expect to see in the next six months. In the Sept. 18th event, the top three solved three puzzles, ?easy? , ?medium? and ?hard? in 12 to 17 minutes.
Sudoku Event Management is pleased to present the winners of The Second Malaysian Sudoku Competition held on Sunday, 20th November 2005 at the YMCA of Kuala Lumpur.
The Event was sponsored by the YMCA of KL Trophies and Refreshments sponsored by Lemon Tree Cafe.
